We are recruiting to fill the position of:
Job Title: GFD / Nutrition Team Leader
Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Availability: 10th January, 2022 (Based on 2022 FLA approval)
The Position

  • We are seeking a committed and competent Team Leader to lead the General Food In-kind and Nutrition component of its Food Security programme in Borno State, Nigeria.
  • The GFD/Nutrition Team Leader will be reporting to the Project Manager Food Security and Livelihoods.
  • The Leader is primarily responsible to ensure the quality of the planning, implementation and follow-up of both GFD and Nutrition component of the WFP Food Security Project.
  • She/he is also responsible for coordinating both internally and externally on GFD and Nutrition activities in Borno State.
  • The position is also responsible for General Nutrition and Food Security programming & operations; coordination and representation; and staff management.

Responsibilities
General Programming & Operations:

  • Responsible for coordination & implementation of DRC Nutrition & In-Kind GFD activities in the intervention communities in Borno state
  • Develop work plans and ensure timely and efficient delivery of all aspect of the GFD and Nutrition Component of the project
  • Design and guide staff on weekly and monthly work plan for both GFD and NPA activities.
  • Ensure proper screening of new arrivals and ensure they are served within 72 hours.
  • Plan and ensure the effective implementation of the Nutrition program.
  • Coordinates all NUTRITION-related fieldwork, including community mobilization, beneficiary identification/registration, distributions, referral, case management and monitoring.
  • Supervise establishment of CMAM activities.
  • Coordinate effective beneficiary targeting according to established vulnerability criteria.
  • Coordinate distribution procedures, including documentation, approval and actual food supplement distribution.
  • Training team on NUTRITION requirements and SOPs.
  • Maintain all documentation relating directly to Nutrition activities, required to ensure accountability to DRC and donors.
  • Coordinate administrative matters relating directly to Nutrition activities: time-sheets, payment schedules, required paper-work and liaison with finance department.
  • Coordinate administrative matters relating to Nutrition activities including reconciliation with Warehouse team post distributions.
  • Ensure to effective program reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems for both internal and external use in coordination with the other program staff.
  • Prepare monthly cash requirement forecast for Nutrition activities.
  • Provide information on Nutrition activities as requested by the Livelihoods Manager.
  • Coordinate the orientation for all new staff on Nutrition.
  • Coordinate with DRC Security Officer and Livelihood Manager on any threats to DRC staff and activities; promptly reporting incidents/security threats or interference in areas of operation.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to DRC and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

Coordination and Representation:

  • Collaborate with relevant Internal and External Food Assistance and Nutrition Sectors
  • Represent DRC at relevant technical coordination meetings.
  • Ensure the integration of nutrition with other DRC sectors.
  • Ensure good representation and reputation of DRC at all levels.
  • Actively participates in internal coordination meeting
  • Ensure and actively participate in regular sector meetings.

Staff Management:

  • Supervise all GFD in-kind and Nutrition staffs.
  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for the community-based mechanisms in operational areas as needed.
  • Conduct regular staff reviews and appraisals.

Logistics / Finance:

  • Initiate procurements and ensure their execution.
  • Ensure distribution plans are prepared and shared with logistics in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that financial returns and documents from the field are timely submitted to Finance
  • To be successful in this role, the candidate is expected to be honest, strongly motivated and display a high standard of integrity in humanitarian work, disciplined and team-oriented

The responsibilities listed in the JD are not exhaustive and may be readjusted according to operational needs but will remain in line with the overall purpose of the role.
Key Requirements
Essentials:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in an NGO setting
  • 2-3 years’ experience in calculating, determining, and forecasting of quantities of GFD and nutrition food commodities required for a given population
  • Ability to plan and execute in a timely and quality manner
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Strong assessment, evaluation, analysis and strategic planning skills
  • IT literate, MS – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Interpersonal communication and proven written / presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage under stressful conditions).

Desirables:

  • Experience in Community Managed Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)
  • Experience in food assistance management and delivery
  • Flexible & willing to work in a remote setting & to travel to other field locations.
  • Ability to multitask and work comfortably under pressure
  • Experience from working in an (I)NGO is an asset
  • Knowledge in Hausa
  • Competent and literate in English, verbal and written, with a sound knowledge of technical expressions, any local speaking language will be an advantage.
Salary and Conditions

  • In accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment
  • The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns
