Three Valid Reasons Why You Should Lock Your SIM

Even though cell phones have made our lives easier, there is always a chance that they could end up in the wrong hands, which can have terrible consequences.
Given these worries, it is more crucial than ever to guard against con artists who try to exploit our moments of vulnerability.

We can secure the data on our cell phones with codes, patterns, biometrics, and other methods, but what about our SIM cards?

Someone might easily take out your SIM card, which holds your phone number, NIN, BVN, security information, billing information, and other bits of information, put it in their device, and use it—even if your smartphone has the strongest security safeguards in place.

The best way to stop con artists from using your SIM is to enable the SIM lock option. Many phones come with a feature called a SIM lock that enables phone service providers to limit how often customers can use their phones.

The use of a mobile phone is limited to a certain network or carrier via a SIM lock. This implies that a network-locked phone can only be used with SIM cards from that network. Do you want to know more about the advantages of the SIM lock feature? Here are three points regarding the feature to be aware of.

1. The Prevention of Fraud

The SIM lock feature is an ideal security precaution against fraud and theft. A SIM that is locked to a particular carrier makes it more difficult for thieves to resell or use stolen SIM cards on other phones. By doing this, the SIM owner’s interests are safeguarded.

2. Customized and Special Offers

Customers of a specific service provider may be eligible for exclusive offers that are only available with the SIM lock function, offering the consumer additional benefits and privileges.

A unique user experience and access to value-added services that might not be available on unlocked SIMs are also made possible by the ability for service providers to tailor the software to their particular network.

3. Customer Service/Support

In order to help with any problems pertaining to the SIM or the service, as well as to guarantee that you have access to dependable support when needed, internet service providers make sure that the SIM lock feature usually comes with customer care.

To activate the service on an Android phone, MTN subscribers can simply follow these steps;

To check if your SIM card is activated, open Settings on your phone, scroll to Security, click Set up SIM Card LOCK, click the LOCK SIM Card, enter the MTN default SIM card PIN, 00000, tap “CHANGE SIM Card PIN” to change the default pin to your own 4-digit pin, confirm your 4-digit pin, and turn your phone on and off.

The following procedures can be used by MTN customers who own iOS devices to enable the feature: To alter your default SIM card PIN to a unique 4-digit number that is only known to you, navigate to Settings, pick Mobile Data or Cellular, select SIM PIN, enable SIM PIN, and enter the MTN default SIM card PIN, 00000. Verify your four-digit unique pin, then turn the power on and off to check if your SIM PIN is enabled.

It is significant to note that the above process will only be applicable if you have never updated your SIM PIN. You will always be required to enter your SIM PIN whenever you remove and re-insert your SIM into a device or switch it on.

If you input the incorrect PIN by mistake and your SIM asks for PUK, either visit a nearby MTN store or enter the right PUK, if you have it.
