Nigerian Navy Ranks and Salaries 2022/2023

Nigerian Navy Ranks and salaries are based on qualifications of  their Officers who are categorized into two, The Commissioned and Non-Commissioned Officers.
The Nigeria navy is the Marine (Water territory) arm of the Nigeria Armed Forces. They are tasked with the responsibility of protecting the Nigeria marine territory. The commision was founded in 1914 and previously referred to as Nigerian Marine. The force was trained by the Royal Navy Officer before it was renamed to Nigerian Naval Force. Also, the Nigerian Navy is considered the largest in West Africa in terms of its workforce and widespread.
The forces’ headquarters command is situated in Abuja with other operational commands in Bayelsa, Calabar, and Lagos state. Some of the responsibilities of the force include:

• Administration of ports and harbors with the Nigerian territory
• Enforcing rules concerning Fisheries, Immigration, pollutions.
• protecting of the Nigerian Seas and Other Water Territories
• controlling of ferrying services
• Dredging of channels
• Implementing all Maritime Laws whether National or International on the water ways.

Nigeria Navy Ranks and Salary 2022/2023

The Nigerian navy ranks and salary structure depend on two categories. The Naval officers in the force can either be commissioned or non-commissioned.

1. Commmissioned Officers of The Nigerian Navy

Commissioned officers of the Nigerian Navy are graduates of the Nigeria Defense Academy, Kaduna and University graduates that are shortlisted from the Direct short service commission. (DSSC)
These officers earn a higher salaries than the Non-commissioned officers.
There are twelve ranks within the commissioned cadre. Starting from the least which is the Mid-shipman to the topmost which is the Admiral of the fleet.

2. Non-Commmissioned Officers of The Nigerian Navy

These categories of officers are those recruited from the advertised recruitment exercise of the Nigerian Navy. They are at the base of the ladder in the hierarchy of the Nigerian Navy.
Below is the salary structure of Nigeria’s navy non-commissioned officers
i. Trainee – Trainee is not paid until they finish their training.
ii. Ordinary Rating – ₦45,854
iii. Able Rating – ₦50,855
iv. Leading Rating – ₦70,855
v. Petty Officer – ₦80,852
vi. Chief Petty Officer – ₦90,825
vii. Warrant Chief Petty Officer – ₦120,853
Apart from these salaries, naval officers get other benefits and emoluments such as travel allowances especially when deployed on special assignments.

How To Join The Nigerian Navy

Requirement Through Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course

• Applicants, must be Nigerians by birth, should possess a minimum of Second-class Upper Division for first degree holders and Upper Credit for HND holders.
• Male applicants must not be less than 1.68 meters tall while female applicants must not be less than 1.65 meters in height.
• Applicants must possess NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificates and should be between 22 and 28 years, except for Imams/Chaplains and Medical Consultants who should not exceed 30 years and 40 years respectively.

Recruitment Requirements to Join Nigerian Navy

1. Applicants must be citizen of Nigeria by birth.
2. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 22 years for School Certificate holders and 18 – 26 years for those with higher qualifications such as Nurses, NCE, OND, drivers etc.
3. Applicants must not be married or have children.
4. Applicants must be free from any previous criminal conviction by a court of law.
5. Applicants with any of the following medical/physical challenges are NOT to apply: sight problem, ear problem, communicable diseases, mental problems, stammering, or any physical disability. Applicants who have tattoos are also not to apply.
6. Applicants must not be below the height of 1.69 meters for males and 1.650 meters for females.
7. Applicants are required to possess any of the following educational/Professional qualifications.

• West African School Certificate/Senior Secondary School Certificate (not more than 2 sittings and not older than 6 years from the date of application, also applicable to sub paragraphs b – e)
• General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level
• National Examination Council (NECO).
• National Business and Technical Examinations (NABTEB).
• WAEC City and Guilds or London City and Guild.
  f. Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
• Any other educational qualification equivalent to those mentioned above.
  h. Applicants would be required to produce their primary school leaving certificate at the selection interview.
• All applicants must indicate/provide their National Identification Number (NIN).
• Applicants are to note that entry requirement into the following categories is SSCE or equivalent: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5 C1, D1, D2, D4, D5, D6, E1, E2, E3, E4, F1, G, H. Any other additional qualifications in these categories can only serve as an added advantage for selection into the branch and shall not attract any extra advantage whatsoever. 1. Applicants with other educational/professional qualifications higher than those stated in paragraph 1 (a-g) are not to apply. Applicants are warned that it is an offence to present false or forged documents for the Recruitment.
2. Certificates or qualifications not declared or tendered and accepted during the recruitment exercise are not acceptable after recruitment and cannot be tendered for the purpose of change of department or advancement while already in the Nigerian Navy. Only qualifications obtained under proper service provisions are acceptable while in the Nigerian Navy.
3. Applicants are required to print out Parent/Guardian consent Form and Local Government attestation Form which must be properly completed, endorsed and presented during the interview.
4. Applicants must come to the recruitment centres with the following documents.
5. Photocopies of Birth Certificate or Age Declaration.
6. Photocopies of Credentials.
7. Duly completed Identification Form must be signed by Chairman or Secretary of the Applicant’s LGA or by an officer of the rank of Commander and above (or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force) or Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above who hails from the Applicant’s State of Origin.
8. Duly completed Parent/Guardian Consent Form signed by Applicant’s Parent or Guardian.
9. Four passport photographs duly signed and stamped at the back by (c) above.
   f. Candidates are to bring the scratch cards of their NECO and WAEC results to the recruitment centres.
10. Application Form is to be completed and submitted online.
11. Any applicant suspected or confirmed to have impersonated, falsified, forged or presented false document(s) shall be disqualified from the recruitment exercise and handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for prosecution.
