Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants from anywhere who are paying the full fee
  • Must be a first-year student of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree program.

Ineligibility Criteria:

  • An applicant who has finished his or her secondary education at a New Zealand institution and
  • has finished any necessary courses at Victoria University of Wellington (i.e. Foundation Studies Program or English Proficiency Program)
  • Have a Study Abroad program or are a student at one of our partner universities
  • If the candidate is in the 2nd year of study at university.

To apply for the Tongarewa Scholarship in New Zealand, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Previous Degree Transcript or Degree Certificate, as well as any additional educational documents 
  • Conditional or unconditional offer letter from Victoria University 
  • Personal Statement (maximum of 500 words) which should include:
  • Why do you want to study at this university
  • Candidate educational objectives
  • Why will you be chosen for this award?
  • You might also include information on any leadership positions you have held as well as your involvement in your institution, school, or community.
